Survey targets were domestic households and businesses in possession of light vehicles.
Passenger cars are classified under Japan鈥檚 Road Vehicles Act in three categories, based primarily on engine capacity: 鈥渟tandard鈥 (over 2,000cc), 鈥渟mall鈥 (661cc-2,000cc), and 鈥渕ini鈥 (660cc and under).

Mini passenger cars' weekly usage frequency in Japan FY 2023
In a survey conducted in 2023 about the usage of light motor vehicles among private households and businesses in Japan, ** percent of respondents stated to use their kei car almost daily. Only two percent of respondents stated to use their kei car less than once per week. Japanese mini cars or kei cars must not exceed *** meters in length, * meters in height, and **** meters in width. The engine capacity is restricted to **** liters.
