Note: Government of India has divided the cities across the country according to their development, population and infrastructure.
Tier 1 cities are metropolitan cities which are developed and cost of living is comparatively high.
Tier 2 cities are more developed than tier 3 cities, well connected with luxury amenities and big shopping complexes and facilities are available.
Tier 3 cities are semi urban and lacking good facilities but cost of living is cheap.

According to the Economic Times survey conducted across India metros in 2019, only nine percent of respondents were willing to take a salary cut of more than 40 percent on relocation to a non-metro city in the country.
Since 2014, there are eight metros in India - Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune.
