Since the Great Recession, the interest coverage ratio of energy and IT companies has been falling much faster than other industries, with these industries reducing their ratio by ** and *** percentage points respectively between 2010 and 2017.
The interest coverage ratio is calculated by dividing a company's earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) by their interest payments due.
