The crude birth rate in Algeria in 1925 was 48 births per thousand people, which means that approximately five percent of the entire population had been born in that year. This grew slowly until the 1950s, when it then started to decline. This decline coincides with the Algerian War of Independence, and, as the trend continues to fall until 2005, this is also in line with global advancements in medicine, as well as increased access to contraception and education in Algeria. Algeria's crude birth rate was just 19 births per thousand people in 2005, however it has increased since then, coinciding with the end of the Algerian Civil War, increased political stability and higher standards of living.
