In Iceland, the crude birth rate in 1850 was 34.7 live births per thousand people, meaning that approximately 3.5 percent of the population had been born in that year. From 1850 until 2020, Iceland's crude birth rate fell from almost 35 births per thousand people, to just over twelve in 2020. Although it has fallen significantly over this time, there were several periods where it increased, such as in the late 1800s, and during the worldwide baby boom in the mid-twentieth century.
