In 2022/23, over ** thousand nurses and midwives joined the nursing register in the UK, while roughly **** thousand left. Up until 2017/18, the number of staff leaving outnumbered the number joining. In 2018/19, however, more staff joined than left, leading to an increase in the nursing staff headcount. This statistic displays the number of nursing staff that have joined and left the Nursing and Midwifery Council register from 2017/18 to 2022/23.
