Global renewable transportation fuel market outlook - statistics & facts
World demand for renewable liquid biofuels is expected to have doubled between 2010 and 2025, with demand driven by technological advances allowing for drop-in alternatives to conventional fuels. Among them, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), renewable diesel, and e-fuels are some of the most promising new fuel types as the transportation industry is looking to move away from traditional biofuels. Currently, biofuels make up around four percent of the total global transportation fuel demand, which stands at more than three trillion liters. Until 2030, total transportation fuel demand is likely to remain stable as greater overall vehicle use will be offset by rising deployment of electric cars. Nevertheless, biofuels could see their overall fuel demand shares increase with SAF supply and the introduction of e-fuels of particular interest to the aviation and maritime sectors.
