Residential construction in Europe - statistics & facts
Residential construction activity in Europe has been falling in the past few years. Despite the plans by several governments on the continent, including the European Commission, to boost the supply of housing, the number of housing permits in the European Union has decreased significantly between 2021 and 2024. That trend has slowed down in 2024, as residential construction approvals barely decreased that year, with a growth rate of roughly zero percent. Nevertheless, the lower number of residential projects approved since 2021 is likely to translate into fewer homes started and completed in the coming years.
