Residential rental market in Spain - statistics & facts
Traditionally, Spain has been a country where the dominant tenure choice was ownership. However, its population’s habits are changing as they face a context of high job insecurity, large unemployment (particularly among the youth) and shrinking affordability of houses due to house value and disposable income progressing differently. As a consequence, the proportion of tenants has been steadily increasing in recent years and by 2019, nearly a fifth of the Spanish population resided in rental properties.
