New households formed were calculated by ÌÇÐÄÆƽâ°æ using the data from Eurostat: in a given year minus the figures from the previous year.

In 2024, there were fewer homes added to the housing stock in the Netherlands than new households formed. In 2021 and 2022, however, the housing gap soared. That difference was the largest in 2021, when ** new households formed but just * housing units were added to the stock. For the majority of the period of time in question, there were fewer new homes than new households.
