The revenue lost due to fossil fuel theft in Mexico amounted to billion Mexican in 2023, up from a record high of nearly **** billion pesos in 2022. In recent years, a series of security measures have been enforced by the Mexican government in an attempt to reduce the number of fuel theft occurrences. In turn, the number of cases reported in the country declined by around ** percent between 2018 and 2020. However, the resurgence of fuel theft between 2020 and 2023 would suggest that these security measures have failed in some ways.
