This statistic displays the electrical generation in Great Britain from 2014 to 2018, by select fuel types. The generation from natural gas increased significantly in 2016 when compared to the previous year to terawatt-hours. Since then, generation has declined to to terawatt-hours.
In comparison, the electricity generation from coal energy declined annually and by 2018 amounted to **** terawatt-hours. This coincides with the planned phase out of coal generation by 2025. In 1970, coal production from deep mining stood at million metric tons. As of 2017, this amount had declined to just * metric tons.

Whilst coal generation has been gradually declining, energy from renewable sources such as solar, wind and biomass has been on the rise.
