Antiretroviral medications are used for restricting the development of a targeted virus in order to treat viral infections. It is a treatment widely used in the management of HIV/AIDS. In the case of pregnant women, it helps decrease the risk of the new born contracting the infection. In 2019, an estimated ** thousand pregnant women living with HIV were treated with antiretroviral drugs in Brazil. In that year, more than 600 patients with HIV were on ART in the South American country.
