The annual expenditure of Italian outbound tourists decreased significantly in 2020 when compared to the previous year, as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The spending of outbound travelers visiting European countries that are part of the euro area amounted to roughly *** billion euros in 2020, dropping from nearly **** billion euros in 2019. Meanwhile, the expenditure of Italian travelers in North America added up to *** million euros in 2020, declining from around *** billion euros in 2019.
