Germany has the largest wind power capacity of all European Union member states. As of the end of 2024, the country had roughly **** gigawatts of onshore and offshore wind power plants installed across the country. Growth in wind energy capacity 

In total, Europe’s wind energy capacity reached *** gigawatts in 2024, more than tripling since 2010. This expansion has positioned Europe as one of the global leaders in the wind energy sector. Offshore wind capacity has also seen substantial growth in the last few years, with cumulative capacity in Europe reaching approximately ** gigawatts at the end of 2024. 

Future wind power developments in Europe 

Looking ahead, Germany's onshore wind power capacity is expected to continue its upward trajectory, potentially exceeding ** gigawatts by 2030. Spain and France are also set to expand their onshore wind installations significantly, with projections of ** gigawatts and ** gigawatts, respectively. For offshore wind, the United Kingdom is forecast to remain the largest market on the continent, with an estimated **** gigawatts installed by 2029.
