In 2024, newly installed wind power capacity amounted to approximately *** gigawatts worldwide. Onshore wind energy still makes up the largest share of wind capacity, however offshore farms have seen a greater growth rate in recent years.Â
Wind market growth
As technologies improve and become more economically viable to implement, the global share of electricity generation from wind energy sources has risen over the past decade. In the next years, wind energy capacity is expected to keep growing steadily as many countries strive to replace traditional fossil fuel sources with renewable technologies.
Where is the wind market expanding?
In 2025, China led by a wide margin with the highest number of wind installations of any country in the world. The United States and Germany followed. With its vast land mass and extensive coastline, China has a unique capacity to produce a large amount of wind power. Among developing economies, Brazil and India were leaders in newly installed wind power capacity in 2025 as these emerging markets - Southeast Asia and Latin America - are predicted to propel the wind energy market forward.
