The Museo Reina Sofía is renowned worldwide for its collection of ** art. With notable artwork such as Pablo Picasso’s Guernica in its collection, the art museum was able to welcome more than *** visitors annually in the five years before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Traditionally, ticketing was a significant source of income for the Museo Reina Sofia. However, the health crisis and ensuing safety restrictions reduced ticket revenues.

Attendance to Spanish museums

As of mid-2023, Andalucia had over *** museums, making it the autonomous community with the highest number of museums in Spain, whereas the autonomous community of Madrid had just over 100 museums. In contrast, according to a survey, the Community of Madrid registered the highest museum attendance rate, with nearly ** percent of respondents in that region reporting having visited a museum in the 12 months before the study, while in Andalucia only ** percent of the participants reported the same.
