This statistic shows the share of respondents in the Benelux who indicate they rarely carry cash money in 2017, by country. Approximately ** percent of the Belgian respondents say they do not carry cash money often or almost never, a percentage which is higher than the European average.
In the last years, the number of available mobile payment apps in the Benelux countries steadily increased. In the Netherlands, banking apps from major banks as Rabobank, ING and ABN Amro were updated in 2013 to enable checkouts using iDEAL, a payment method with a current market share of over ** percent. In March 2017, Belgian banks BNP Paribas Fortis, Fintro and Hello Bank! launched their support for Android Pay whilst the Swedish mobile payment platform Seqr was introduced in Luxembourg in July 2016.
