This statistic shows the value of card payments as a ratio to GDP in the Benelux countries (Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands) from 2010 to 2019. In 2019, the value of card payments in Belgium was worth approximately 22 percent of its GDP. In Luxembourg and the Netherlands this ratio reached values of 19.4 and 18.3 percent respectively.

Like in other European countries, credit and debit cards are a popular form of digital payment methods for either physical purchases in brick-and-mortar-stores or for online purchases in the Benelux region. In 2016, Luxembourg had approximately 216 card payments per capita compared to 151 in Belgium and 232 in the Netherlands.

Consumers from the Benelux are familiar with the use of credit cards. Domestic uses, however, appear to be few due to the presence of other popular payment services, with credit cards generally being used for specific situations such as online shopping or foreign travels.
