In 2023, the livestock of buffalos in China was around million heads, an increase from the previous year. Generally, the number of buffalos has increased gradually since 2017. In the past, buffalos played an important role in Chinese agriculture. However, in the process of modernization, the buffalos' main purpose was milk production.
