In 2024, the number of new cases of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) diagnosed in Poland amounted to just over *** thousand. The number of HIV cases has increased in Poland since 2006 when *** cases were reported.
The later stages of HIV are referred to as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The cases of AIDS have generally fallen over the same period, resulting in *** cases in 2022, down from *** cases in 2006.
In 2022, the demographic with the highest amount of new diagnoses of HIV in Europe was males aged 30 to 39 years, with approximately cases diagnosed. The most common mode of transmission in this year is homosexual contact.
