Milliamp hour (mAh) is a unit for measuring electric power over time, commonly used to describe the amount of energy stored in a battery. All batteries were tested under controlled conditions at a drainage rate of 200 mA until a cut-off point of 0.8 volts. All batteries had expiration dates well into the future.
While the two Lithium batteries that were tested took the top two spots with more than 2,900 mAh, the Alkaline batteries tested ranged between and 2328 and 1491 mAh. Comparatively, none of the sixteen Zinc batteries tested held a charge in excess of 669 mAh.
Although the Lithium batteries had the longest battery life, the fact that they are usually more expensive than Alkaline batteries meant that they were not the most cost effective of the batteries tested. That honor went to the Ikea Alkalisk, which provided the longest battery life per pound spent.
