The number of bank branches per 100,000 adults in Canada fell sharply from 2006 to 2023. In 2006, there were approximately **** branches per 100,000 adults, a number that remained stable until 2012 before declining to **** by 2019 and ** by 2023. This reduction in branch numbers also led to a decline in branch banking usage. Between 2019 and 2024, the share of bank account holders conducting banking transactions in person dropped by six percentage points.
