Southwest Airlines grew its available seat miles (ASMs) from 120.58 billion in 2011 to 177.25 billion in 2024. In 2020, this value reduced significantly, amounting to 103.46 billion. By 2021, ASMs improved and reached 132 billion and increased further in 2022 to 148.47 billion, further going to 170.32 billion in 2023. ASMs are calculated by the total number of seats multiplied by the total distance traveled. When describing the airline industry, people consider ASMs as a measure of capacity.
