Early-stage entrepreneurial activity (TEA) is defined as the percentage of adults aged 18–64 who are either a nascent entrepreneurs or owner-managers of a new business, i.e. the proportion of the adult population who are either starting or running a new business.

In Ecuador and Chile, over ** percent of the adult female population was involved in running or setting up a start-up. Ecuador was also the country in the Americas with the highest share of its adult population involved in business start-ups. Meanwhile, Guatemala had the highest share of men involved in start-ups.
