This statistic shows the seats won in the European Parliament Elections in the European Union (EU) in 2009 and 2014, by political group. After the elections in 2014, the Group of the European People's Party (EPP) had 221 seats in the parliament. The other parties with seats in parliament were S&D: Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament; ALDE: Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe; Greens/EFA: The Greens/European Free Alliance; ECR: European Conservatives and Reformists; GUE/NGL: European United Left/Nordic Green Left; EFD: Europe of freedom and democracy Group; NI: Non-attached Members – Members not belonging to any political group.
The EFD includes parties such as the United Kingdom Independence Party, the Danish Peoples Party and the Finns Party which represent nationalist views and invariably seek independence from the European union.
