'Tourism day visits' are defined as day visits not taken on a regular basis and located out of the participant's 'usual environment'. This distinguishes them from leisure day visits which include any excursions away from home including at least one leisure activity.

² Figures for 2020 were not recorded as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Following the easing of restrictions in early 2021, the survey continued from April onward. A new methodology was employed, which saw the Great Britain Day Visitor Survey combined with the Great Britain Tourism Survey, as well as a new weighting system that reduced the number of weighted cells from 1,408 to 616. As a result, figures for 2021 and 2022 are classified as experimental statistics rather than official statistics and are not entirely comparable to pre-2020 data. Number of tourism day visits in Great Britain 2011-2023
Around **** billion day trips were taken by British tourists within Great Britain in 2023. While this marked an increase from the previous year, it remained below levels recorded before the start of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
Tourism Day Visits (TDVs) are defined as leisure day visits, lasting three hours or more, to destinations other than where the place the participant lives and that they do not visit 'very regularly'. Figures for three hour plus leisure day visits in Great Britain overall reached around **** billion trips in 2023.Ìý
