The eCommerce market encompasses the sale of physical goods via a digital channel to a private end user (B2C). Incorporated in this definition are purchases via desktop computer (including notebooks and laptops) as well as purchases via mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
The following are not included in the eCommerce market: digitally distributed services (e.g. travel tickets), online stores dedicated to digital media downloads or streams as well as online stores dedicated to B2B markets nor sales between private persons (C2C). Market volume, market growth and all monetary figures at store level refer to the annual eCommerce net sales after the deduction of returns.

In 2017, market leader Amazon.com, Inc. generated over billion U.S. dollars via e-commerce sales of physical goods in the United States. Online shopping is one of the leading digital activities in the United States - in 2017, U.S. consumers spent over *** billion U.S. dollars online. In 2022, U.S. e-retail spending is projected to surpass *** billion U.S. dollars. The most popular time to spent money online is the holiday season at the end of the year. Cyber Monday regularly ranks as the top online spending day in the United States with Cyber Monday e-commerce sales in 2016 amounting to **** billion U.S. dollars on that day alone. Cyber Monday spending has surpassed * billion U.S. dollars in daily online sales since 2010.
