The size of offshore wind turbines has grown tremendously since they were first developed. In 2024, offshore wind turbines had an average rotor diameter of approximately *** meters, up from ** meters in 1991. It is expected that in 2030, new designs will make possible to produce up to ** megawatts with a turbine of an average rotor diameter of over *** meters. In 2024, the average power rating of offshore wind turbines was ** ³¾±ð²µ²¹·É²¹³Ù³Ù²õ.Ìý
Offshore wind turbine manufacturers
Some of the largest offshore wind turbine manufacturers include Siemens Gamesa, Sewind, and Vestas. Siemens Gamesa had a total installed capacity of ** gigawatts as of the end of 2023, whereas Sewind and Vestas reached ** and ** gigawatts of offshore capacity. Regarding newly installed offshore capacity, Mingyang and Siemens Gamesa were the companies that registered the largest volume of installations in 2023, at roughly **** and **** ²µ¾±²µ²¹·É²¹³Ù³Ù²õ.Ìý
Manufacturing of wind turbine components
In recent years, China has been increasing its presence along the wind energy supply chain. In 2022, the country was responsible for ** percent of the global wind turbine nacelle manufacturing capacity and ** percent of wind turbine blade manufacturing capacity. Europe was the second-leading region for the manufacture of wind nacelles and blades, accounting for ** and ** percent of the global capacity.Â
