Metro is a German multinational wholesale company operating membership-only cash and carry stores. The company operates globally in more than ** countries and has more than ***stores across Europe and Asia under the Metro and MAKRO brands. In 2022, the wholesaler employed around * people, one third of which were practically in Western Europe.

METRO customers

METRO’s core customers are HoReCa and Traders. The HoReCa customers include hotels, restaurants, bars and cafés, catering companies, canteen operators, and street food vendors. The traders' section includes small grocery stores, kiosks, gas stations, and other wholesalers. In 2020, amidst the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the hospitality industry, particularly METRO’s HoReCa customers were hit particularly hard due to the official restrictions imposed by the authorities. In contrast, the Traders’ group was less affected as small grocery stores and convenience stores benefited from the continuing trend towards convenience solutions.
