The study conducted by BVA on the French and green vacations notably reveals the proportion of French people for whom the ecological footprint plays a role in the choice of transportation during their vacations in 2019. That year, 60 percent of respondents took the ecological footprint into consideration when choosing a mode of transport for their vacations. Meanwhile, 12 percent of them did not take it into account at all.
A more mature ecological awareness
Papers left on the ground, cigarette butts on the beach, overconsumption of water in hotels, and overproduction of waste... tourists are far from being model "eco-friendly" students. However, the many alarm bells sounded in recent years about the seriousness of the current ecological situation seem to have gradually awakened awareness. Beyond the initiatives implemented by tourism stakeholders, the French are thinking more about their vacation destination choices, the activities on site, and their accommodations. 55 percent of French tourists were also now concerned with consuming local and seasonal products.
Rise of eco-tourism
Eco-tourism is a term that appeared as early as the 1980s with the aim of protecting the environment while raising travelers' awareness of the natural environment or places they visit and respecting the culture and local communities. This form of tourism has become attractive by offering alternative accommodations such as yurts or treehouses perched high in nature. 55 percent of French people could see themselves going there as a couple, and 70 percent for a weekend.
