This statistic represents the number of active doctors registered with the medical council by gender and age group in France as of January 1, 2025. While there is a generational dip for doctors aged 50 to 54, reforms related to the numerus clausus in the 2010s subsequently allowed more students to pursue a career as a doctor.
It is also worth noting that the profession is becoming more female with each generation. While male doctors aged 65 to 69 are twice as numerous as female doctors, the trend is reversed for younger doctors under 40 years old.
