This survey questions the French about their level of interest in using a personal assistant system to make an online purchase in 2019. A majority of respondents, ** percent, stated that they were not interested in these tools for online shopping.

An intelligent personal assistant is software capable of performing tasks on behalf of an individual. The capabilities of these assistants are as broad as they are varied, whether it is providing practical information such as weather or traffic, conducting internet searches, launching videos (on YouTube or Netflix), or music applications (Spotify). Siri (Apple) was the first personal assistant installed on smartphones in 2010; since then, many other assistants have emerged. While it is possible to communicate with an assistant via text, voice recognition has stood out, so that today, * percent of French people have declared owning a voice-connected assistant based on voice recognition.

While the number of people making online purchases is constantly increasing, shopping on Amazon via a virtual personal assistant is more appealing than ever. Internet shopping via smartphone has exploded over the past five years and reached its highest rate in 2018.

However, the arrival of personal assistants in our homes and daily lives is not always welcomed. Indeed, some consumers have expressed reluctance to buy an assistant because they feared the hacking of their personal data. This reaction is not very surprising when one knows that almost all French people consider their personal data to be valuable and are convinced that large companies in the Information Technology sector covet it.
