This statistic presents the number of people recovered from the coronavirus (COVID-19) worldwide as of January 8, 2023, by country. It shows that out of a total of 39.40 million infected people in France, 38.73 million have recovered. Conversely, 162,643 infected people on French territory have died.
Modes of transmission and symptoms
According to the most likely hypothesis, the emergence of this virus in humans was due to contamination by an animal at the Wuhan market in China at the end of 2019. Since then, human-to-human transmission has been confirmed; it mainly occurs through respiratory routes (exhalations, sneezes, coughs). The contagiousness of the virus is still poorly evaluated. In fact, it is still unknown to what extent infected people without any symptoms can or cannot infect others. Furthermore, the symptoms related to a COVID-19 infection resemble those of the flu: fever, cough, breathing difficulties, muscle pain, and fatigue.
Treatment
To date, there is no vaccine or specific treatment against the coronavirus (COVID-19). The treatments given to infected people are therefore symptomatic, meaning that the treatments used act only on the symptoms, but not on the disease itself. Thus, the individuals at the highest health risk related to the coronavirus are vulnerable people: the elderly, the sick, or immunocompromised individuals.
