In 2022, China produced more than 27 million passenger cars and commercial vehicles, compared to about 1.38 million for France. In 2020, Toyota was the second largest automobile manufacturer worldwide by revenue, with sales valued at nearly 249 billion U.S. dollars. However, the Volkswagen Group had a slightly higher vehicle revenue of 254 billion U.S. dollars.
