Despite the importance that female artists have gained within the music industry in recent years, it remains a male-dominated world. In fact, across all musical genres, there is still a clear predominance of male singers and groups, especially in the case of hip-hop and rap. In this genre, women represented only **** percent of the total artists who entered the U.S. industry charts during the period between 2012 and 2023. Pop, a genre traditionally more associated with women, on the other hand, has the highest presence of female names, with around ** percent of the artists within this genre being women.
