It is an average of the five lowest quotations from a selection of the main varieties of American cotton (upland) traded internationally (currently 19). Recently, the "A" Index has changed by representing prices based on CFR (cost and freight) of the Far East. The "A" Index quotation recorded on August 1, 2008, in the table above is based on CFR quotations of the Far East. Quotations prior to August 1, 2008, are based on CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) values of Northern Europe.
