The statistics show the evolution of the average commission that merchants pay to banks each time a card payment is made in Spain from 2002 to 2019. As can be seen, the banking sector has encouraged card payments by reducing the fees charged to merchants for each transaction. In the first quarter of 2019, the commission charged by banks to establishments for card payments was 0.39 percent, 1.2 percentage points lower than the commission charged in 2002.
