Visa again became the most prominent brand in online and offline card payments in Spain in 2024, after Sistemapay took over that role in 2020. Visa accounted for a ** percent market share as of 2024. This was according to research conducted over multiple years within Spain. The source does not explain the sudden change in 2020, although this was the first year Sistempay was included. The domestic start-up from Madrid unifies payments of many of Spain's largest banks, including BBVA and Santander. Cards issued by banks are popular in the Mediterranean country but did not grow as much as credit cards did after the coronavirus pandemic.
