The data includes both genuine or authentic comic books, as well as printed publications that, although not strictly comic books, contain panels in at least ** percent of their pagination. Similarly, fan magazines, known as fanzines, have been considered as long as they are known in the conventional commercial circuit, along with satirical magazines and books.
Although the Spanish comic book industry seems to have experienced a general upward trend in recent years regarding the number of publications, the reality is that it remains far from the figures recorded during the and , considered the golden age of Spanish comics, or during the boom of the late and mid-. Despite this, it maintains its position as one of the most important comic traditions in Europe.
