In mid-2022, the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) indicated in the 2022/23 school calendar that in-person classes would resume and that educational activities should return to pre-pandemic normality on August 29, 2022. According to a survey conducted during the 2020/21 school year in Mexico among educational authorities and school communities, the most concerning problems and challenges regarding the return to in-person classes include the risk factors for infections, the lack of sanitary supplies, and the need to level students due to the absence of in-person classes.
