* The sample of 193,749 respondents was divided as follows:

School principals: 15,035, of which 5,442 correspond to preschool level, 5,426 to primary level, and 4,167 to secondary level.

Teachers: 71,419, of which 20,025 correspond to preschool level, 27,624 to primary level, and 23,770 to secondary level.

Parents or guardians: 72,305, of which 19,711 correspond to preschool level, 31,535 to primary level, and 21,059 to secondary level.

Students: 34,990, of which 10,299 correspond to primary level, and 24,691 to secondary level. Preschool children did not participate in the survey. Their parents or guardians answered on their behalf.

The "Learn at Home" project was created by the Mexican government with the goal of delivering distance education to as many students as possible in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The project consists of television programs created for each educational level and broadcast throughout the day. It also includes an online platform and radio programs.

Citation formats

According to a survey conducted in November 2020 with Mexican students studying from home and their tutors, among the most common educational activities reported by respondents were solving exercises and homework individually, as well as working with free textbooks. Regarding online activities, about ** percent of those interviewed stated they used the "Aprende en Casa I" website. The online tool, Google for Education, was used by nearly ** percent of the surveyed students.

A collective challenge

One of the most significant challenges for families following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has been the implementation of distance learning. In Mexico, millions of students spent most of 2020 without access to in-person classes. However, it was not only the students who had to adapt to the new system, but also mothers, fathers, and teachers.

Aprende en Casa

As an alternative to the in-person system, the Mexican government implemented the “Aprende en Casa” program. Officially launched at the end of April 2020, the project aims to offer classes through television programs and other media, with an approximate cost of ** Mexican pesos per semester per enrolled student. In September 2020, it was estimated that about ** million people benefited from the project.
