This chart shows the total expenditures of the French government from 2010 to 2023, in billions of euros.
Expenditures increased steadily over this period except between 2010 and 2011. After 2020, in connection with the pandemic and the "whatever it takes" policy, particularly in favor of businesses and the implementation of partial unemployment, expenditures jumped by more than 60 billion euros compared to 2019. The following years were marked by an active policy of budgetary support from the government through very generous subsidies and public aid, which had already reached 160 billion euros in 2019.
