This statistic presents public opinion regarding the penalization of clients of sex workers in France in 2019. It shows that a majority of French people, namely ** percent, believed that this law was a good thing. The law on penalizing clients, adopted in April 2016, punishes the purchase of sexual acts with a fine of U.S. dollars and up to U.S. dollars in case of repeat offenses. An additional penalty may be imposed in the form of a sensitization course on the working conditions of sex work. Since its proposal, this legislation has sparked intense debates and opposes two ideologies: on one side, abolitionists who believe that prostitution is a form of oppression and exploitation of women and whose goal is to eliminate prostitution; on the other side, there is a more regulatory approach led by organizations such as Doctors of the World, Family Planning, and the Strass (Sex Work Union), which propose administratively regulating the practice of prostitution and see this law as significantly worsening the working conditions of people in prostitution.
