This statistic presents the opinion of the French on the potential repeal of the law penalizing clients of prostitutes in January 2019. The law penalizing clients, adopted in April 2016, punishes the purchase of sexual acts with a fine of U.S. dollars and up to U.S. dollars in case of repeat offense. An additional penalty may be imposed in the form of a sensitization course on the working conditions of sex work. Associations such as Médecins du Monde, Family Planning, and the Strass (Sex Work Union) see this law as causing significant precariousness, even endangering the working conditions of prostitutes. Nine associations and about thirty sex workers have therefore filed a priority constitutional question (QPC) against this law. This QPC could then lead to the repeal of the law by the Constitutional Council. Thus, although ** percent of the French understood the arguments of these associations and actors, they did not believe this justified the repeal of the law.
