Individuals are classified by citizenship as either nationals or non-nationals of their country of residence. Non-nationals are divided into two groups: citizens of another EU27 country and citizens of a non-EU27 country.
Migration status is determined by a person’s country of birth and, where relevant, their parents’ countries of birth. Individuals are categorized as native-born (born in the reporting country) or foreign-born (born abroad). Native-born individuals are further distinguished by parental birthplace: those with two native-born parents, one foreign-born parent, or two foreign-born parents.
