Cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors include systolic blood pressure ≥ 130 mm Hg or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 80 mm Hg; non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ≥ 190 mg/dL; A1c ≥ 6.5%; and body mass index ≥ 30.

Prevalence of cardiovascular disease risk factors in U.S. adults 2021-2023, by age
As of 2021-2023, 34.5 percent of adults aged between 40 and 59 years in the United States were estimated to have at least two cardiovascular disease risk factors, compared to 19.3 percent of those aged 20 to 39. While over half of the adults aged 20 to 39 in the U.S. did not have any cardiovascular disease risk factors, this was the case for just around a quarter of adults aged 60 and older.
