In the fiscal year 2023, the government in Japan issued Green Transformation (GX) Economy Transition Bonds worth around *** trillion Japanese yen. For fiscal year 2025 an issuance amount of around *** billion yen was scheduled according to the initial budget. In the 10 years from fiscal 2023 onwards, Japan plans to issue GX Economy Transition Bonds worth around 20 trillion yen.
The Japanese government issued the world's first sovereign transition bond in early 2024. Bonds issued under the GX Economy Transition Bonds framework also include "Japan Climate Transition Bonds" that are certified by external reviewers.
