The survey sample comprised 452 financial institutions, including 10 city banks, trust banks, and other banks, 59 regional banks, 35 second-tier regional banks, 224 Shinkin banks, and 124 credit cooperatives.
Respondents were asked about the outlook for ESG-related financing demand among their institution's customers and business areas in general.

Expectations for future ESG finance demand among financial institutions in Japan 2024
In a survey conducted between August and October 2024, the majority of financial institutions in Japan, around ** percent, stated that ESG finance is a growth area. Around ** percent expected that demand for ESG funding will expand, while *** percent thought that the need for ESG financing will plateau in the mid-to-long term.
