"Hypertension is defined as systolic blood pressure greater than or equal to 130 mm Hg or diastolic blood pressure greater than or equal to 80 mm Hg, or currently taking medication to lower blood pressure. Among those with hypertension, control is defined as having systolic blood pressure below 130 mm Hg and diastolic blood pressure below 80 mm Hg."

It was estimated that from August 2021 to August 2023, only around 21 percent of adults in the United States aged 18 and older who had hypertension had the condition under control. Control of hypertension increases with age, but was still only 29 percent among those aged 60 years and older.
